Export Compliance

MSU exports have increased exponentially over the years, as global research and educational initiatives have continued to expand.

Exporting requires proper documentation, commodity classification, and record keeping. It is necessary for you to fill out the International Shipping form (.PDF) and attach it to your package. Logistics uses this information to complete the required documentation, listed below.

  • Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number for select European countries
  • Shippers Export Declaration Form
  • Commercial Invoice
  • USMCA Certificate of Origin

Shipments of agricultural products, plants, and seeds may require that you obtain a phytosanitary certificate from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Exports require a minimum 24–72-hour review and processing period prior to shipment.

Export Regulations

European Union

In alignment with EU regulations aimed at strengthening safety and security, MSU's International Shipping form was updated effective March 1, 2023 to include an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number.

Currently, the EORI requirement is only for a limited set of EU countries: Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Lithuania, and Romania. Adding this information ensures compliance, reduces customs delays, and allows for accurate duties and taxes to be applied when crossing EU borders.

Other Regulations

MSU's Office of Export Control and Trade Sanctions is available to provide best practices advice and hands-on assistance to the MSU community for compliance with the U.S. Export Control Regulations.
